When an enemy deals direct health damage to you, there is a chance they take the same damage that you lost.

While in Fight For Your Life your guns deal Bonus Fire Damage.
Phaselocking an enemy creates a Fire Explosion, damaging nearby enemies.
While an enemy is Phaselocked, your bullets have a chance to ricochet off enemies towards other nearby enemies.
Shooting an enemy spawns a lingering Acid Cloud, dealing constant Corrosive Damage to enemies within.
Only one Acid Cloud can be active at a time.
