In Borderlands 2 Non-Elemental Weapons are the most common Weapons.
The Common Rarity will always be non elemental, except Maliwan and Torgue Weapons.
Physical Damage deals full damage to Flesh and Shielded enemies, only Armored targets take 20% less damage.
Standard Melee attacks deal Physical Damage.
Manufacturer Jakobs primarily produces Non-Elemental Weapons with a few exceptions:
Stinkpot, Greed, Twister, Cobra, Hot Mama
Non-Elemental Rocket Launchers and Grenades deal Explosive damage.
Non-Elemental Weapons have 10-20% more base damage than elemental Weapons.
Borderlands 3
Includes all Non-Elemental Explosive Damage and melee damage.
Physical Damage deals full damage to Flesh and Shielded enemies, only Armored targets take 20% less damage.
More Elements

Radiation
Enemies that die with the Radiation Status effect, explode and spread radiation to nearby enemies.
Effective on Shields; Neutral on Flesh; Weak on Armor.

Shock
Shock is effective against shielded enemies. Ineffective (Neutral in Borderlands 2) against flesh and armored enemies.

Explosive
Neutral on Flesh and Shields; Weak against Armor.
In Borderlands 3 Explosive Damage is considered Kinetic Damage.

Cryo
Cryo Damage reduces enemy movement speed and can freeze them.
Effective on Armor; Neutral on Flesh; Weak on Shields.
